FSE first aid at your premises
We come to you in Eastern Norway with manikins and defibrillators. You practise what to do when a colleague has had current through the body. You take the theory as an online course. If you are a larger group, we come anywhere in Norway.

Two things the rules ask for
DSB works on the basis that no more than 12 months pass between each round of training, and that your electrical safety manager (fagansvarlig) takes part in planning and running it. The training has two parts. You cover the theory with an online course. First aid is learnt with your hands, and that is the part we come and run, on a manikin at your site. We phone your electrical safety manager before the session and agree the set-up, and afterwards you get the paperwork showing what was covered. We are building our own online course for the theory. Until it is ready, you use the one you have.

How the session is put together
The order is fixed. The time depends on how many you are. For ten participants it typically takes an hour and a half to two hours. The FSE theory is not included; you take that as an online course beforehand.
Opening
A short look at your installation and what has happened over the past year.
Current through the body
What electric shock and arc flash do to the body: burns outside and inside, and rhythm disturbances that can come hours later. That is why everyone who has had current through the body goes for ECG monitoring.
Hands-on first aid
In the order it has to be done (XABC): freeing the casualty without becoming victim number two, stopping bleeding, open airways, recovery position and pocket mask. Then CPR at 30:2 on a manikin that gives feedback, and a defibrillator. Three to four per manikin, so everyone gets to practise.
Scenario and paperwork
An incident somewhere you know: who calls 113, and who meets the ambulance? Finally everyone signs the attendance list.
We hold the session in Norwegian or English. If you have people who are more comfortable in English, tell us when you book and we run the whole session in English.
Eight people get through the practical part faster than twelve. The content is the same.

Annual agreement
The agreement runs for three years, with the same session every year. DSB works on the basis that no more than 12 months pass between each round of training, so we propose a new date 11 months after the last session, and you confirm it. That way you never discover in March that the deadline ran out in January.

Zone 1 is up to one hour's drive from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S), measured as normal driving time in Google Maps. There the travel is part of the price, and we add nothing for evenings or weekends. Zone 2 is up to two hours. Further out, or for larger groups anywhere in Norway, we agree the travel case by case.
Travel, equipment, course certificates and the inspection annex are included in the prices above, and no VAT is added. We invoice after the course against your organisation number, net 14 days.
Who runs the session
The instructors
The content was written by Anders, a paramedic in the ambulance service with four years as an FSE instructor. The session is run by him or by one of our other instructors, to the same plan.
- The first aid covers both low and high voltage.
Your electrical safety manager
DSB writes that your electrical safety manager "must take an active part in planning and delivery, and contribute incidents from their own undertaking". We have built the session around that, so that part is easy for you.
- We phone your electrical safety manager before the session and plan the content together. Your own wishes cost nothing extra as long as they do not need more time.
What you get documented
If an inspection or an internal audit turns up, you should be able to find what was covered and who took part, without searching for it.
Course certificate the same day
One for each participant, with name, date and what the session contained. We send them the same day as the course.
Signed attendance list
Every participant signs in the room. The list shows who was actually present.
Inspection annex
One document showing what the first aid session contained and how the content was adapted to your installation. You file it straight into your internal control system, alongside the documentation from the theory course.
All of it in one delivery
We send the course certificates, the attendance list and the inspection annex by email the same day, gathered in one delivery. If you need them again later, we send them again.
With the paperwork comes a short checklist of what goes into your internal control system, with the date for next year's session. It takes a quarter of an hour to file.
