One session, not one with a defibrillator and one without
First aid courses are often sold in two versions: the course, and the same course with a defibrillator added. That leaves whoever books it having to know enough about first aid to pick the right one, and the cheaper one is always the one without. We do not sell that version. A defibrillator is part of every session, the short one as much as the full one.
We buy our equipment new and own it ourselves. Training defibrillators, manikins and every consumable arrive in the van with the instructor, and you will not be handed a borrowed manikin that has been through twenty courses before yours.
What the rules actually say
The employer has a duty to provide first aid training and practice. It follows from the Working Environment Act § 4-4 and from the regulation on organisation, management and employee participation § 10-1. The law sets no deadline for how often you must repeat it. The Labour Inspection Authority recommends one to one and a half years. We write it the way it stands, and not as «required by law every two years», which is how many sell it.
How we do it
Five steps from enquiry to finished course.
What you learn
Two lengths. The short one covers the life-saving basics. The full one adds the injuries that actually happen on a building site and in a workshop.
Full session
Around four hours. Everything in the short session, and then these four.
Bleeding and wounds
Stopping heavy bleeding. Pressure dressings, and what you do when they are not enough.
Burns
Cooling, for how long, and when it needs a doctor. We include burns from hot work.
Falls and crush injuries
Suspected fractures and neck injuries. When to move someone, and when to leave them alone.
Running the scene
Who does what in the first minutes. We work through a case from your own workplace.
Short session
Around two hours. For companies putting everyone through the minimum, and for refreshing it when it has been a while.
An unresponsive person
Checking consciousness and breathing. What you do in the first thirty seconds, before you have time to think.
Calling for help
Dial 113. We practise what you say, and on one person calling while another starts compressions.
Clear airways
Recovery position on each other. Choking, with back blows and abdominal thrusts.
CPR
The manikins measure depth and rate. You can see for yourself whether you are pushing hard enough, and most people are not on the first try.
Defibrillator
Everyone attaches the pads and runs the machine themselves. We keep at it until you trust it to tell you what to do.
The course is held in Norwegian or English. Tell us which suits you.
We take up to 16 participants per instructor. If you are more, we split the group or send a second instructor, and we agree the price.
Price
The price is for the whole group. The lowest price is the most expensive per head, so we show both figures.

Who runs the course
The instructors
The content is written by Anders, a paramedic in the ambulance service. He or one of our other instructors holds the course, following the same plan.
- We follow the Norwegian resuscitation guidelines.
The equipment
We own the manikins and the training defibrillators and bring them with us. You do not need to buy or borrow anything.
- Six manikins and two training defibrillators come along to every session.
What you are left holding
The paperwork arrives the same day. You should not have to chase us for it.
A certificate for every participant
With name, date and what the session covered.
Signed attendance list
One list you can file straight into your HSE folder.
The date for next time
We note when the Labour Inspection Authority's recommendation runs out, so you know when it should be repeated.
All in one e-mail
We send the certificates and the attendance list by e-mail the same day, together. If you need them again later, we send them again.
We issue a Sertio course certificate. There is no public approval scheme for first aid courses in Norway, so nobody can offer more than that, whatever they call it.
